Fuel additives gain more attention whenever gas prices are on the rise, and for a good reason. Each type of fuel additive has a specific purpose, such as preventing corrosion and combustion buildup, cleaning out accumulated carbon in fuel injectors, stabilizing fuel, managing emissions, etc.

But arguably, the most attractive perk of using fuel treatments when gas prices are at an all-time high is they can improve and increase gas mileage.

Increasing Gas Prices In 2022

The idea of traveling farther and longer than you usually do on a full tank of gas is a welcome prospect for car owners in the U.S. today. Rising gas prices have always been a struggle for many, especially those who cannot depend on public transportation and must shoulder the costs of increasing gas prices on top of car mortgage and vehicle maintenance.

By March 2022, the average price per gallon had exceeded the previous record of $4.11 in 2018. It is expected that gas prices will be as high as $4.25 in May, and that the year-long average will still be a high of $3.99 per gallon.

Fortunately, you can do something to minimize the financial burden of the continuing gas price increases, by making use of fuel treatments.

Fuel Additives For High Mileage Vehicles

For cars that have already racked a high mileage count and whose engines already have traces of wear and tear, the Berryman B-60 High Mileage Fuel System Rejuvenator is an excellent choice. This additive is formulated to clean fuel systems for gas-powered vehicles with over 60,000 miles on the odometer. It contains powerful detergents and Berryman Products’ trademark High Energy Solvent Technology (H.E.S.T.). It does a fantastic job of dissolving carbon residue and fuel deposits and cleaning fuel injectors, intake valves, combustion chambers, and carburetors.

Injecting the B-60 into a full tank can clean out the engine system and keep its components functioning at peak capacity. As a result, there is a significant reduction in rough idle (noticeable shaking of the vehicle when idle) and improvements in the engine’s performance and driveability. In addition, with the engine combustion working at high efficiency, a driver can experience improved fuel economy and clock in more miles without refueling extra gallons.

Other Berryman additives can also increase mileage, like the B-12 Chemtool Total Fuel System Clean-Up (recommended for vehicles with less than 60,000 mileage) and the B-12 Chemtool® Carburetor, Fuel System, and Injector Cleaner (dissolves gum and fuel residues, allowing for higher compression, improved spark plug performance, and higher injector life).

Fuel additives serve various functions depending on their ingredients and formulations. The key is to identify the issues that make your car drive slower than it should or reduce your engine’s combustion efficiency. Once you’ve identified the problem, you can find an additive that addresses it and restores your car’s performance level.

Fuel Stabilizers For Seldom-Used Vehicles

Many people have fallen into the habit of parking their cars and driving only when necessary when gas prices reach a high. Instead of spending a significant part of their monthly budgets on expensive gas, they opt for alternative modes of transportation, such as joining a carpool service or riding a bicycle for short-distance errands.

While this strategy offers attractive benefits (i.e., cost savings on saved gas and lower carbon emissions), letting your car sit for weeks or months with gas in the tank can also lead to engine problems that can cost you a lot in vehicle maintenance and repairs.

Car fuel expires over time. It eventually deteriorates, and its liquid components separate. When fuel stays stagnant in a tank for a long time, its components can separate and accumulate in areas they shouldn’t. As a result, storing your car to avoid extra expenses can become a double financial blow: you’ll waste the fuel already in your tank, and you might even have to get your car towed to the repair shop when your engine sputters and pops when you finally start it up again.

To prevent this from happening, inject fuel stabilizers into the tank so that the fuel stays in good condition while the car is in storage. Berryman Products offers solutions for gas and diesel engines that may also be used for generators, motorcycles, utility terrain vehicles, and snowblowers. The Berryman® Total Engine Tune-Up for Gas and Diesel, for example, bonds with gas to prevent its water component from evaporating and leaving behind a sticky residue that can ruin the carburetor. It will stabilize your fuel for one year.

Other Tips For Improving Fuel Economy

To maximize the effects of performance-enhancing fuel additives and the cost savings they bring, The Environmental Protection Agency (EVA) recommends doing the following best practices for improving fuel economy:

• Turn off your engine when waiting for long periods instead of idling.
• Take the “check engine” indicator seriously. Take your car to a shop for vehicle maintenance and routine check to head off engine issues before they escalate (and if you catch the problem early, using fuel additives may be enough of a remedy).
• Avoid overloading your car.
• Map a sensible route when running errands so that you can do all of them without driving more miles than necessary.
• Schedule your trips for one day instead of spreading them all over the week. Car engines are more fuel-efficient when they’re warmed up, so you can save more on one long drive instead of numerous short trips.

Save On Fuel Costs And Improve Fuel Economy

Fuel additives offer an opportunity to save money during a gas crisis, and their improvements to your engine’s performance can help you save on costly repairs and maintenance issues. First, however, you must find quality additives that work from a brand that you can trust.

Since its inception in 1918, Berryman Products is a respected manufacturer of fuel additives, engine cleaners, lubricants, tire sealants, and other related products. Berryman is a trusted brand for quality fuel treatments and conditioners with a proven track record backed up with positive reviews (HESTimonials) from customers.
